Even if you think yellow is a beautiful color, you may be confused about how to use it in your home. Many people don't use yellow to decorate an entire room and instead use it as an accent choice, since it's perfect for adding some bold contrast to a room. Here are ten colors to pair it with, from purple to black to pale, pale pink.
1. Green
The bright green of this house plant completely pops next to a mid-century modern couch in a bold shade of yellow.
2. Light Purple
Yellow and light purple is a softer take on the look, but one that's still quite pleasing. This bedroom from Trendsparna has that minimalist Scandinavian look, but the addition of a little color keeps things interesting.
3. Black
Black and yellow is a pretty bold color combination, but it is possible for it to look sophisticated. Try using the black as a background color, and the yellow as more of an accent, as seen in this bedroom from Lonny.
4. Gray
If yellow and black seems a bit harsh to you, try yellow and gray. Seen here in a kitchen from the Dagbladet via Turbulences Deco, the combination is cheerful without being cartoony.

5. Hot Pink
To make black and yellow even bolder, try adding hot pink, which is certainly not a look for the faint of heart. However, as seen here, it can definitely have a certain quirky appeal.
6. Pale Pink
While we're on the subject of pink, I'm a big fan of the color combo in this vignette styled by Noël Coughlan—mustard and pale pink. If yellow and pink is a bit too sweet for you, this is a great way to add a little sophistication to the pairing, particularly in a room with lots of black and white.
7. Light Blue
In this room from Design Bloggers at Home, spotted on My Friend's House, soft yellow and light blue make a lovely combination. Both colors are a bit desaturated, and there are quite a few neutral accents in the room, which keeps the look from feeling too Easter-egg.
8. Navy Blue
In this room from Fastighetsbyran (via Apartment Therapy), bright yellow and navy blue work surprisingly well together. Choosing a blue that's a bit on the somber side keeps your brain from immediately thinking of an IKEA store.
9. Royal Blue
Not that we aren't huge fans of IKEA, of course. I do think this combination can work, but it needs to be used as an accent, rather than a main color. In this space from Femina, the blue and yellow combo is lively but not childish when used in a judicious way.
10. Brown
The sunny yellows in this entryway pop even more when paired with the warm wood of this mid-century modern console table. Keeping the color story consistent makes the whole space feel cohesive.
